| A lot of the policies schools come up with are ridiculous. Long hair isn't distracting (How can girls have long hair without being distracting? It's not as if long hair on guys is uncommon. Restricting one gender from doing something the other can is shitty, too.) and that whole "it's distracting" excuse is shit to begin with. If your kid is distracted by even rainbow mohawks in class for more than a second, unless they can't see the board or anything, it's their problem.
Zero tolerance is a shit policy, too.

| My brother started growing his hair out in middle school. Our British principle, who preferred to be called a "head master" (get it? Pun unintentional), gave him a hard time about it wanting him to cut it.
My brother continued to get trouble from school authorities in college because of his collection of knives and swords from Africa, along with his own homemade (-ish) axe.

| I had the whole hair restriction thing in elementary school, but since then no problems. Zero tolerance is actually pretty good for my school, being a rather ghetto inner-city school fights are a daily occurrence and anything to keep it from getting deadly helps, though it does get excessive at times, nail two boards of wood together at a 90 degree angle and you can get in trouble (seriously) -.-. But yeah, the hair thing is ridiculous. | |

| This is getting ridiculous. this is a free country that allows freedom of expression and id say having long hair is under that not to mention that ITS LONG HAIR! Its not like he brought a 12 inch bowie knife to school.
Zero Tolerance rules can work but you also have to use common sense when you suspend or expel people. Like that kid who got expelled for bringing a combo knife, fork, spoon thing that he used in boy scouts. the kid was 7, like he knew. he wasnt stabbing people in the leg!

| Inorite? It's not as if it was "get a haircut, hippie" long. It's about as long as my younger brother likes to keep his hair, and he looks just fine. | |
